Fontang Wins 2024 Coach of the Year Award

Frederic Fontang, the current coach of Felix Auger-Aliassime, has been crowned the 2024 GPTCA Coach of the Year. Fontang, a former professional player who soared to a career-high ranking of World No. 59 during his playing days between 1989 and 1998, has left an indelible mark on the tennis world with his coaching career.

Fontang's coaching journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He has held pivotal roles with Tennis Canada and served as the captain of the Canadian Davis Cup team. Notably, Fontang worked extensively with Vasek Pospisil from October 2012 to August 2016. Under Fontang's guidance, Pospisil achieved an ATP singles ranking of No. 25 and soared to No. 4 in doubles. Prior to his collaboration with Pospisil, Fontang lent his expertise to Jeremy Chardy from September 1999 to January 2011. Together, they celebrated victories at the 2009 Stuttgart Open and made impressive runs at prestigious tournaments like the French Open and ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto. Fontang's coaching portfolio also includes a stint with Caroline Garcia from March 2011 to June 2012. During this period, Garcia showcased her talent by reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon Juniors and the finals at the US Open Juniors.
